David West feels athletic ability is the least essential in making a basketball player in Africa become the best in the world.
Power forward David West just emerged a champion at the ended 2017/2018 season. The 36 year old has spent 14 years in the NBA and won his first championship some months back.
The experience and immense leadership has made him one influential figure when it comes to development of basketball on the African continent.

Due to his charisma, West has found himself in Ghana three times and always shares views on development as well mentor Ghanaian kids to grow in the sport.
David West was at the University of Ghana on Tuesday, August 15 to supervise a mentorship programme powered by Zoetic Energy Company.
He did that alongside T.J Warren

Speaking to Pulse Sports, David West gave his views on how Ghana basketball was developing.
“It’s getting better. It is all about investing not just money but the time, effort and information,” he told Pulse.com.gh.
He later spoke on what exactly Ghana has to do push the sport to a higher level
“It is about information let the players know what is available and what the game can do for them. Letting them know where the game will take them if they commit themselves to it”
David West went to speak of the possibility of a Most Valuable Player emerging from the African Continent.
“All the athletic abilities are here in Africa. There are incredible athletes in and from Africa but athletic ability is 10% of the battle. 90% is mental. It is about what you know and information you have in order to develop and improve. Information has to get here, consistency in approach has to get here for young talents to continue to get better."
