Speaking Friday at a lecture organised by the Ghana@60 planning committee, Prof Oquaye held that certain aspects of Ghana's independence has bee declared in Saltpong before Nkrumah arrived in Ghana.
Dr Kwame Nkrumah did not achieve independence alone for Ghana, Speaker of Parliament Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye has said.
Speaking Friday at a lecture organised by the Ghana@60 planning committee, Prof Oquaye held that certain aspects of Ghana's independence has bee declared in Saltpong before Nkrumah arrived in Ghana.

"Certain fundamentals of independence had been declared in Saltpond in 1947 before Nkrumah arrived in this country," he said.
The former political science lecturer at the University of Ghana continued: "Our name had been chosen. That name was researched upon...Our colours had been chosen. Our constitution had been written by a legal team led by (JB) Danquah.
"What will be the emblem of the nation, they chose the eagle and Danquah justified and explained in extensor the eagle
"These things have been established and published in the various newspapers and no one person could have have changed it at that stage our development towards independence."
In a thought provoking lecture, the speaker said before Ghana's first president was overthrown in 1966, he had changed Ghana's flag colours to red, white and green from red, yellow and green.

He further said the country's embassies were also instructed to change the Ghana flag hoisted to the CPP colours.
"When Nkrumah has his way as in a president in 1964, he got the flag he wanted, our flag of red, yellow and green was in 1964 changed to become red, white and green.
"All our embassies changed our flag to red, white and green. It was only after 1966 that we went back to the dreams of the founding fathers."
