Nine athletes who represented Ghana in the just ended Commonwealth Youth Games will return home without a medal
Ghana ended the 6th edition of the Commonwealth Youth Games, failing to grab any meda in the competition held in Nassau, Bahamas.
Ghana represented nine athletes in six disciplines namely: athletics, boxing, beach volleyball, swimming, judo and tennis, yet they will come home empty hands.
Chef de Mission for the Games, Mawuko Afadzinu, has, however, lauded the performance of Team Ghana at the Games, especially the beach volleyball team.
“The athletes were very positive, their enthusiasm was very good and they were focused. God willing, if things go on well like this, it will be the beginning of a long journey of success,” he said.
Some of the athletes who made a good account of themselves but failed to win a medal were Abeiku Jackson who qualified for two finals in swimming;
The beach volleyball team also excelled. Team Ghana’s pair of Kelvin Kartey Carbon and Eric Tsatsu reached the third-place final of the competition but lost narrowly to Australia, thereby finishing fourth overall.
The performance of the team was better than the last edition held in Samoa, because for the first time three athletes made it to the final
