Black Stars: Asamoah Gyan explains why he went for the U.S penalty kick

The 31-year striker has broken his silence after missing missing from the spot kick against the United States

Asamoah Gyan says he rescinded his decision not to take penalties for Ghana in the U.S game in order to break his penalty jinx.

The skipper of the Black Stars has been in the news for days for wasting a penalty kick against the United States of America in an international friendly.

It was his first spot kick for the Black Stars since taking a break with regards to taking penalties for the team in 2012.

Asamoah Gyan was Ghana's first choice penalty taker, until he missed two crucial spot kicks against Uruguay in the quarter finals of the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the semi-finals of the 2012  Africa Cup of Nations against Zambia.

Gyan who happens to be Ghana's all-time top scorer, after coming under criticisms for wasting the spot kick against Zambia vowed never to go near the spot whiles playing for the Black Stars.'

Gyan, however backtracted and stepped forward to take the spot kick against U.S, after five years break but unfortunately his kick was saved.

The former Sunderland hitman, made amends by scoring an incredible freekick, but it couldn't overturn a two goal deficit and Ghana in the end lost 2-1

‘’Honestly, I was not the one to kick the penalty but I just decided to shoot it.’

‘’I wanted to break that jinx around me but unfortunately, it did not happen but am a man I needed to step up. Those who don’t step up are not recognized’’

Meanwhile Asamoah Gyan has signed a two-year deal with Turkish topflight side Kayserispor
