GSK has named the Worldwide Health Ltd (WHL),a wholly Indian-owned company as the only distributor of GSK products in Ghana.
United Kingdom based pharmaceutical company, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Export Ltd has terminated its distributorship contracts with some big pharmaceutical firms.
The affected local pharmaceutical companies are Ernest Chemist Ltd, Unicorn Chemists Ltd, Gokals Laboraex and Parkenstein Ltd.

GSK has now named the Worldwide Health Ltd (WHL),a wholly Indian-owned company to distribute products in Ghana.
WHL has been in Ghana for just five years and has a presence in few towns in the country.
According to the affected local companies, the termination will create monopoly and expose the country to real risks, instability and possible arbitrary price rises.
Efforts by the affected companies to get the GSK Ghana management to rescind its decision proved futile because the management said the decision was irreversible.

The four companies have made an appeal to authorities in Ghana to intervene to get GSK to rescind its decision,“as it is not in the country’s interest.”
Executive Member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSG) Ernest Owusu Aboagye, believes that it was wrong for Ghana to place the medicine supply into the hands of foreigners.
He explained that if the foreign company decides to close down its activities in the country, Ghana will lose out drastically.
