Asamoah Gyan missed a late minute spot kick against Uruguay in the quarter finals of the 2010 FIFA WOrld Cup
John Mensah believes Asamoah Gyan should continue to be the first choice penalty taker for the Black Stars despite wasting a penalty against Uruguay that could have made Ghana the first side to reach the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup.
Gyan afterwards the spot kick again against Zambia in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals and following criticisms from Ghanaians he decided to take a break from taking penalties for the Black Stars.
However, he rescinded the decision and stepped forward when a penalty was awarded in Ghana's favour on Saturday, but he wasted it.
“He should be allowed. Asamoah Gyan is someone who always takes penalty for us, in our game against Uruguay we all knew he will score,” he said on KWESE FREE SPORTS.
“I initially thought Stephen Appiah will play but later saw Gyan with the ball.”
