Police are warning residents to avoid the area around the hospital.
A gunman fatally shot one person and wounded six before apparently killing himself at a New York City hospital Friday afternoon, law enforcement officials told the Associated Press.
At least three doctors were among those shot at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center, the New York Times reported. Their condition is unknown.
An NYPD spokesman confirmed that the shooter is dead.
Police described the shooter as wearing a blue shirt and white lab coat that concealed a long gun, and one law-enforcement official said he may have been an employee of the hospital, according to the Times.
Law enforcement officials identified the shooter as 45-year-old Henry Bello, a former hospital employee, NBC News reported. Former NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton told the network the incident appears to be "workplace violence" from a "disgruntled former employee."
The FBI said there is "no nexus to terrorism."
Several reports said the shooting took place around 3 p.m.
