The government has acquired the disputed Nkonya and Alavanyo land for the establishment of a military training camp.
The government has compulsorily taken over the piece of land which has been noted to be the cause of a bloody conflict between the people of Alavanyo and Nkonya in the Volta Region.
According to the Defence Minister, Dominic Nitiwul, the government has acquired the disputed Nkonya and Alavanyo land for the establishment of a military training camp.
He said the move is to ensure that no side has access to the land and a reason to fight over it.

The Minister disclosed this on the Floor of Parliament on Thursday while contributing to a statement calling for lasting peace in the area.
The people of Alavanyo and Nkonya have for more than a century clashed over a piece of land.
The clashes have often claimed several lives in the area.
It will be recalled that earlier in May this year, a 15-year-old boy Prince Ankutse was shot dead. A middle-aged woman was also killed by some unknown persons recently.
