A candidate of the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) has died a day to the start of the examinations.
Janet Tutu, who is a student at Dadieso in the Sekyere Kumawu district of the Ashanti Region died on Sunday June 4, 2017.
The news has been confirmed by the District Chief Executive for the area, Samuel Agyekum.

In an interview, he told Accra-based Class FM that the young girl had complained of feverishness shortly before her untimely death.
“Yes, it is true that one of the candidates for the BECE has died. The unfortunate incident occurred yesterday, Sunday…Because this happened in my district, I moved quickly to visit the family to console them on the loss of their loved one.”
The 2017 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) began today, Monday 5 June, 2017 across the country.

A total of 468,053 candidates sat for this year’s BECE.
Out of the total number of candidates, 241,148 are males, while 226,905 are females.
The students are expected to complete the examinations on Friday June 9, 2017.
