Sulley Muntari is the latest Black Stars footballer to be bereaved following the death of his father Alhaji Muniru on Monday.

Anthony Annan
The former Schalke O4 midfielder Anthony Annan's mum Madam Sophia Sampson passed away in February, 2012, while he was still with the Black Stars in Equatorial Guinea/Gabon for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
Madam Sophia felt sick in the early hours of Thursday 23rd February and died later in the day.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) sent their condolence to Annan for the loss.
“The Ghana Football Association is deeply saddened to hear of the death of the mother of Anthony Annan, Madam Sophia Sampson,” Ghana FA President Kwesi Nyantakyi said in a statement.
“Our thoughts are with Anthony, his family and relatives on this very sad day for us.
“We have spoken with Anthony and his family in Ghana to offer our support at this difficult time.
“As Anthony has decided not to leave the Nations Cup to go home, the GFA, the coaches, players and staff will continue to offer him our constant support.”
Asamoah Gyan
The mother of Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan, madam Cecilia Amoako died on 6th November, 2012 when she drove her car into a pillar at the Teachers' Hall in Accra.
Madam Cecilia Amoako was rushed to the Ridge Hospital where she died on arrival.
According to an eyewitness account, madam Amoako, a teacher, lost control of the car’s steering wheel which led to her death at the hospital in the west African country’s capital, Accra.
Isaac Vorsah
Ghanaian defender Isaac Vorsah's father, Evans Boye passed away in March 2013 after a short illness. Vorsah had visited his ailing father just two days, before his death, while he was preparing for Ghana’s 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Sudan.
Michael Essien
Former Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien lost his father James Essien in September 2013. The news was broke to him after arriving in Ghana to play for Ghana in a decisive 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying game against Zambia. Essien confirmed the sad news on his Twitter handle.
“It's hard to take but God knows best. Thanks a lot for the support and well wishes. R.I.P Father!!!!,' Essien tweeted to confirm the sad news that has already gone viral on social media.
Samuel Inkoom
Ghanaian defender, Samuel lost his dad, Victor Inkoom in April, 2017
Samuel shared a heartbreaking message on Instagram which reads, “Death may have taken you from me, but my life's hero you'll forever be. RIP DAD”.
Samuel Osei Kuffour
The former Bayern Munich defender had retired before he lost his mother, but he is being considered because the mother passed on in February, 2017.
Samuel Osei Kuffour’s mother, Gloria Abena Ateah died in Kumasi after a short illness.
Sulley Muntari
The Pescara midfielder’s father, Alhaji Muniru passed away on Monday 29 May, 2017 after battling with illness for some time. He will be buried according to Islamic traditions.
Alhaji Muniru also left behind another son who is a father Sulley Muniru- plays for Steau Bucuresti.
