The National Youth Employment Agency (YEA), according to the Deputy Director in-charge of Operations, Mr. Ibrahim Bashiru has removed 18,000 'ghost names' from its payroll in response to correcting discrepancies detected in the payroll at the agency.
In April 2017, the Management of the YEA has halted the payment of salaries to beneficiaries under the scheme.

The YEA said it has had to take the action because of discrepancies detected in the payroll of beneficiaries.
Audit by Management has saved the Agency one million, sixty seven thousand and seven hundred Ghana cedis (GH? 1,067,700) per month, he said.
Mr. Ibrahim Bashiru speaking to Accra-based Citi FM said "So far we have deleted Eighteen thousand (18,000) employees from our paid roll who are not working but drawing allowances and have also saved this country about GH¢4 milion."

He said the YEA had promised to commence payments on June 18, 2017.
"Let me assure the Youth Employment workers who have not been paid for two or three months that we are doing everything humanly possible to ensure that, they are paid. We are doing a nationwide audit of all employees across the country.

"In the Upper East Region we have three terms currently and we are told that, the Bawku zone is completed and that will be followed by the Navrongo zone and the Bolgatanga zone to complete that of Upper East.," he added.
