Mankind has countless different religions. Many people have their own beliefs that evolve and change throughout time. First of all, what is this “New Age”? Many people struggle when trying to find an answer for this question. The most widespread definition is that it was a range of completely different spiritual beliefs and ideas that appeared in the 1970s in Western countries. Why did it happen right then? Well, for years people have experimented with different spiritual beliefs and ideas. But only in the 1970s did these movements gain so many followers that they have been noticed by the majority of the population. 

So what exactly did they believe in? The one idea that ties together all the New Age teachings is that person’s experience is the main source of authority in dealing with a spiritual side. All of these ideas are very democratic and suggest that a human itself should be praised, not the higher power. Freedom of an individual is the most important thing in the world. Of course, this idea divided the supporters of the New Age. Some believed that even if the greatest emphasis is on the individuality, people still should help each other, while others had a different view of the situation. 

New Age follower didn’t believe that there is a certain established way that they can use in order to pursue spirituality. Rather than that they believed that everyone can build their own way to do it by combining different pieces of their experiences. No strict dogmas or rules. 

It is quite interesting to look at a New Age approach towards the concept of divinity. They believe, that the definition of the divine should be unique for every human being and that every single perspective of the divine is absolutely correct. They believe that humans simply cannot fully grasp the full idea of “divine”. They also usually tend to believe that there is a source where everything came from and that source is deeply connected with the divine itself. There have been even new creation myths created by different New Age groups that explained how everything was created by the Ultimate Source.

New Age religions have significantly declined over the last years. Since 1990 less and less people knew what the term even meant. But their ideas still live on in one form or another. Maybe, soon there will be new beliefs and ideas about our spirituality that will once again revolutionize the way we think of everything. Who knows?
