Salafest, an annual feast and musical festival aimed at bringing together Muslims communities in Accra was launched on Wednesday at the Chapter O street at Nima, a suburb of Accra.
The event is scheduled to take place on Monday, June 26 on the streets of Nima.
The festival in its sixth year is organised by EXP Ghana, an Experimental Marketing Agency, in collaboration with Hip life group ‘VVIP’ and Chapter O.
Speaking at the launch, the Chief of Nima, Nii Futah, highlighted the importance of the Ramadan saying it was a month in which Muslims all over the World show generosity to others.
‘‘The month of Ramadan is a remarkable month throughout the history of Islam, a month where rewards and alms are doubled. We should be active in spending our wealth to help those who are less fortunate in our society,’’ Nii Fita noted.
He also commended the organisers for their consistency and the use of Nima as the venue for the event, adding that, ‘‘my community is most grateful.’’
Reggie Rockstone, a member of ‘VVIP’ said the community contributed immensely towards their success and that there was the need for the group to organise the event in Nima as part of efforts to give back to the community.
‘‘This is our personal contribution to the community, which has made us who we are today and we as a group see this as an opportunity to invite to our community and we thank everyone for the support so far,’’ he said.
The Country Director of EXP Ghana, Mr. Abdul Aziz Amankwah, thanked the Chief and people of Nima and the sponsors for their unflinching support and commitment towards the annual event and called on other sponsors to come on board.
‘‘ These sponsors had over the past six years proved that they care about their core targets and had done everything possible to promote events that will go a long way to touch lives.’’
Mr Amankwah said this year’s event will be one of the best ever organised since its inception six years ago.
Chief Superintendent of Police Abraham Acquaye assured that there would be enough security during the event.
