A police constable attached to the Tema Regional Police Rapid Deployment Force was on Monday evening shot and killed by two unknown assailants near Michel Camp.
Constable Micheal Kporyi, who was in his late 20s met his untimely death whiles on duty in the area.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Joseph Benefo Darkwah, Tema Regional Police Public Affairs Officer, briefing the media on Tuesday, said on June 12, 2017 at about 21:30 hours, the Police Command had information that two armed men on a motor bike had shot a police officer who was also on a motor bike around a filling station near the UBA Bank at Michel Camp area.
ASP Darkwah added that when Police proceeded to the scene, the body of the deceased was seen lying in a nearby bush and was identified as that of Constable Kporyi with Police number 51475.
He said examination on the body showed that the deceased sustained multiple gunshots wounds in the face and the chest.
The body has since been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue for preservation and postmortem.
He indicated that information gathered from an eye witness revealed that the two unknown gunmen who were seen riding a motorbike behind the deceased officer suddenly overtook him and the pillion rider opened fire at him.
The constable, the eyewitness noted, fell off his bike into a nearby gutter close to a bush along the road.
The Police PRO said investigation was underway and appealed to the public to provide the Command with relevant information.
