Members of Effutu constituency get cars and sewing machines

Dr Alahji Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President, has advised beneficiaries of ‘work and pay goods and services’ to take good care of their grants and work judiciously with them.
The Vice President said this during the handing-over of 20 new taxis and 12 DDL-55505 industrial sewing machines to some drivers and dressmakers in the Effutu Constituency.
The Vice President was accompanied by Mr Mustapha Hamid, Information Minister, Mrs Mavis Awaa Koomson, Member of Parliament (MP) for Awutu Senya East and Presidential Staffer for Special Development Initiatives and Mr Kwamena Duncan, the Central Regional Minister.
The items were purchased by Mr Alexzander Afenyo-Markin, Member of Parliament for Effutu with his share of the common fund.
Each of the cars cost Thirty Thousand Cedis (30,000.00) while each of the machines also cost Ten thousand Cedis (10,000.00).
Dr Bawumia said the gesture by the MP symbolizes that government under the leadership of President Akufo Addo is committed at implementing its manifesto plan.
He said the creation of jobs for the youth, ‘one district one dam project’, the free Junior High School which is taking off in September were among other initiatives which have been put in place to ensure that the lot of many are improved in the society.
Mr Afenyo-Markin said the 20 taxis were the first consignment of forty he ordered, saying each beneficiary is to pay back the cost of the car within a period of two years, just as each beneficiary would pay back the sewing machine in a year.
He said the gesture should not be seen as gifts but they are to help them become self-sufficient owners of cars and shops.
He said the next batch of cars would also arrive in a few weeks time.
