Tactical Olympics share spoils with Kotoko
Visiting Accra Great Olympics displayed sheer determination to force Asante Kotoko S/C to 1-1 in their Ghana Premier League Match Day 17 fixture at the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi, on Sunday.
For Kotoko, it was a disappointing performance having drawn their fifth consecutive match at home and the expression on the faces of their teeming supporters after the encounter summed up their frustration.
The results currently leave Kotoko in the fifth position on 25 points and Olympics lying in the 12th position on 19 points.
Olympics, riding on the back of their first round victory over the Porcupine Warriors, deployed a well-rehearsed strategy, containing the homers in the midfield, with surprise counter-attacks, which made it difficult for Kotoko to go all out in search of the needed goals.
Kofi Bekoe nearly stunned the homers in the 40th minute when he took on the Kotoko defence in a solo effort but his final delivery would be punched to safety by goalie Ernest Sowah.
The second half saw Olympics introducing bulky striker, Kwame Boateng, a former Kotoko player, into the game, and he made an instant impact.
Boateng combined effectively with David Agbordume in the opponents’ goal area and without hesitation the latter unmarked shot past goalie Sowah to register the first goal for the visitors.
Substitute Sadick Adams fetched the equalizer for Kotoko in the 77th minute, scoring from the spot-kick after Emmanuel Gyamfi’s shot hit the hand of an Olympics defender.
