Mr Sulley Alhassan, the Nkoranza South Municipal Director of Education has commended the Department for International Development (DFID) and its partners for the implementation of the Ghana Adolescent Health Reproductive Project in the municipality.
He said the project has empowered the youth in the area by enabling them to easily access information about sex and related health concerns.
Mr Alhassan gave the commendation through the Ghana News Agency and expressed worry that teenage pregnancy impeded girl-child education in the area.
He expressed optimism that with the implementation of the project the problem would be brought under control and improve the girl-child education ratio.
Mr Alhassan urged parents to support the project by educating their adolescent boys and girls on sex.
He urged the Nkoranza Municipal Assembly to organize stakeholders meetings in the communities to promote education in the area.
Mr Alhassan called on religious bodies to use their pulpits to condemn moral decadence and help the youth to lead healthy lives.
Separately, Madam Agartha Osei, Nkoranza South Municipal Girls Education Officer, expressed concern about the high incidence of teenage pregnancy in the area.
She told the GNA that 26 cases of teenage pregnancy has been recorded in some basic schools in municipality in the first quarter of the year.
Madam Osei appealed to parents to draw their girl child closer to them, identify and provide them with basic needs of life.
She said 42 girls have also dropped out of school as they were pregnant but added that her unit is working to ensure that they come back to school after delivery.
