An entrepreneurial skills training programme to aid the youth to venture into business has been launched in the Oforikrom Constituency by the Member of Parliament (MP), Dr. Emmanuel Marfo.
It is part of an aggressive push towards fighting unemployment among the people in the area.
Under the programme, the youth are taken through business plan preparation, process of business registration, best practices including record keeping, marketing and how to access credit.
Dr. Marfo said the goal was to encourage the young people to take bold decisions to create jobs for themselves and others.
He underlined his determination to go to every length to support and stand with them every step of the way – to achieve success.
The MP said they were targeting about 1,000 graduate, undergraduate and other out-of-school youth.
He spoke of plans to link up those eager to go into commercial farming with the farmer associations and to provide them with the relevant tools, equipment and technical assistance.
Dr. Marfo also assured those already into various trades and vocations – bakers, hairdressers, dressmakers and barbers that they would not be left out and would be supported to grow.
He said he was ready to go the extra mile to help them with the basic things they required to thrive to contribute to the economy and to make their lives meaningful to others.
Mr. Nelson Owusu Ansah, the Ashanti Regional Director of Youth Employment Agency (YEA), applauded the MP for the intervention.
He said there could be no doubt that this would go a long way to bring down the high rate of unemployment in the country and to make things better for the people.
