The Rural Water Development Programme of Church of Christ (RWDP-COC) a Christian non-governmental organisation, has provided more than 1,200 boreholes and other facilities in the Northern Region since its 30 years of existence.
In May 1987 the RWDP-COC drilled boreholes in Wenchiki for the eradication of guineaworm, which was afflicting the people.
Three missionaries- Josiah Tilton, Aaron Marinez of United States and Mr Christian Nsoah of Ghana visited the Church of Christ in Wenchiki in pursuance of Evangelistic Mission in the Region. During the visit the evangelists found out that 80 per cent of the people were infested with guinea worm.
In their quest to find solution to the problem the RWDP-COC was established in by Traverse City Church of Christ in the US overseen by Elders George Chrisholm and Bria Paterson.
Mr Josiah Tilton, Executive Director or Ghana West Africa Mission (GWAM) US, who launched the anniversary, said two new boreholes at the cost of GH? 42 million had been drilled and fitted with pumps to replace two broken ones.
Mr Josiah who was enskined as Chief of Unity by the traditional authorities, expressed appreciation to the people for their co-operation.
He said 2,000 residents of Wenchiki would benefit from the boreholes.
Mr Nathaniel Sasah Adams, Chief Executive officer of RWDP-COC, expressed appreciation to GWAM US, the late Overlord of Dagbon, Ya-na Yakubu Andani II and other stakeholders for the progress the NGO had made.
Mr Tahidu Abdul-Razak, the Chereponi District Chief Executive said the District Assembly was the entry point of the area and all NGOs and development partners should pass patronise its services to facilitate their development efforts.
Mr Samuel Abdulai Jabagiti the Member of Parliament for Chereponi indicated that the Constituency with a population of 53,395 and 265 communities was faced with lack of potable drinking water.
The Wenchiki Feme Awuffor Abubakari Buba said the borehole provided by the NGO helped to eradicate guinea worm and other water borne diseases and so workers now accept positing to the community
He appealed to the NGO to foster Sister City relationship between Wenchiki and its operational community in America.
