One Life Aid Foundation (OLAF), a Non-Governmental organization is embarking on a project that will help augment government’s efforts in achieving quality education in Ghana.
The project is to support needy school children in deprived community schools in the Eastern Region and by extension, across the country with education materials with the aim of boosting teaching and learning in those schools to be able to compete with well-endowed schools in the country.
In view of this mission, OLAF has once again extended its charitable work to pupils of Koforidua Osabene Islamic School and Asikasu Presby Primary and Pre-School.
The NGO (OLAF) last Friday presented Hand Washing basins, Exercise books, Pens, Pencils, Erasers and Boxes of Chalks and medicals to these schools which are in dye need of education materials.
The schools, though are deprived in many ways, have brilliant students who always excel in their performances hence, OLAF with its sister NGO, RAKOD Widows Foundation have adopted these two schools onto their education project.
Doing the presentation to the Heads and teachers of the two schools in a separate ceremony, Founder and Executive Director of One Life Aid Foundation (OLAF), Joycelyn Siaw-Asamoah, said the gesture was to support government’s efforts in providing quality and effective teaching and learning in schools since government alone cannot provide all the needed materials for children in schools.
According to her, the Foundation had already begun supplying these schools with educational materials and that, what was done on Friday was the second time they are supporting the school.
She pointed out that; the Foundation was touched by the plight of pupils in these and other schools when members of the Foundation went on a tour through the various schools in the Region hence their gesture.
Speaking to both Harrison Appiah Sowah and Abdul Wahab Ali, P.R.O and Headteacher respectively of Osabene Islamic School, they both expressed appreciation to the Foundation for the presentation.
According to them, the school is in dye need of other materials as well as classroom blocks since what they have to do with currently is inadequate.
The school is also without a Staff Common Room as teachers sit under trees for meetings.
But according to the P.R.O, both Harrison Appiah Sowah management of the school made several efforts to contact government and the education authorities over their needs but nothing has been done.
“As you can see, we don’t have staff common room, computer lab, and even school uniform and sandals for children. Some of these children you see don’t have and cannot afford any of these items so we think the presentation from OLAF and RAKOD is in the right direction and we appreciated that so muc. As Oliver Twist, we are asking for more and also, extending our appeals to other like-minded organizations to help,” he said.
In the same manner, teachers of Asikesu Presby School also were enthused about what the two Foundation have done and believe that the gesture will continue so that they will also be able to give the children the needed assistance to be able to excel.
