E-commerce platform, MallforAfrica, on Friday launched its office in Kenya in order to tap into the growing demand for online shopping of quality goods from overseas markets.
CEO of MallforAfrica Toya Foloyan told a media briefing in Nairobi that its digital channel is the only e-commerce platform in Africa that provides access to U.S. and Britain stores directly.
“By accessing the MallforAfrica platform, Kenya will have easy access to over 8.5 billion items for sale from over 150 U.S. and Britain retailers,” Foloyan said.
Some of the retailers include Amazon, Carters, Fashion Fair Cosmetics, Topshop UK, Barneys, Footlocker, Sports Direct, M&S, Bloomingdale’s, J. Crew, among others.
MallforAfrica’s customers place and pay for their orders through the company’s web or mobile app.
The CEO said that the online platform makes it convenient for African consumers to purchase goods from international retailers using local currency as well as local payment solutions.
After clients place an order, the goods arrive in ten to 15 days. Kenya is the second country in Africa to have a local MallforAfrica physical presence after Nigeria.
MallforAfrica Country Manager, Kenya, Naomi Konditi-Kivuvani said that more Kenyans are becoming tech-savvy and are increasingly shopping online.
“However, there is still a growing challenge to get genuine international products locally, or to get a payment platform preferred by majority of Kenyans,” Konditi-Kivuvani said.
E-commerce has rapidly grown in the recent years across Africa because of the positive outcomes it has had on various industries including travel, tourism and hospitality. Enditem
