The Tanzanian government on Friday urged television broadcasters to incorporate sign language in their programs to help deaf people understand.
Nuru Millao, Deputy Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, said the government was determined and ready to partner with stakeholders to address challenges hindering broadcasters from engaging sign language interpreters in their programs.
She was speaking at a one-day Consultative Meeting on the Media Inclusion of Deaf Community Through Sign Language Interpretation held in Tanzania’s commercial capital Dar es Salaam.
Millao reminded television broadcasters that they were responsible to engage sign language interpreters in their key programs like news bulletins and during major national events.
She commended some of television broadcasters that have started engaging sign language interpreters in their news programs. Enditem
