The Delegation of the European Union and Namibian Parliament recently concluded a five-year Parliamentary Support Program (PSP) in Namibia, which was aimed at strengthening the contribution of Parliament to the poverty reduction agenda.
Program Coordinator of Parliamentary Support Program Johan de Waal on Monday said in statement the PSP can report great progress during the five years of implementation such as: strengthening the capacity of targeted Standing Committees within the National Assembly and the National Council whose mandates include oversight of poverty reduction programs.
“Furthermore, post-election induction trainings for newly elected members of the National Assembly and the National Council were held with the goal to ensure enhanced quality of their work,” she added.
De Waal said the Program also improved domestic accountability of the Parliament by creating a freely available database containing laws and regulations.
The PSP has been funded by the European Union with over 1.7 million euros during the period 2012 to 2017. Enditem
