The Kumawu Circuit Court, has sentenced a herdsman, Shaibu Nuhu, to 16 years imprisonment over cattle theft.
The convict has been engaged to look after the animals but sold eight of them, priced at GH?30,000.00 and fled with the money.
He pleaded not guilty to the offence.
Police Chief Inspector Paul Kludze told the court, presided over by Mr. Abdul Yusif Osei Asibey that the incident happened on March 19, at Kumawu.
Nuhu had taken the animals numbering 18, out for routine grazing.
Unknown to the owner, the convict had arranged with someone, he refused to identify, except to tell police investigators that he is living in Sunyani, and sold to him eight of the cattle.
The prosecution said he went into hiding after the crime, was tracked down to his Techiman hideout in the Brong-Ahafo Region and arrested.
