Twenty four (24) Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs’) in the Eastern Region have been sworn-in with a call to them to work hard and with passion to make a difference – to bring progress.
Mr. Eric Kwakye Darfour asked that they united the people behind the government’s development agenda.
They should be in haste to transform the living conditions of the people in their various municipalities and districts.
Only two district assemblies in the region – Yilo Krobo and Ayensuano, are yet to approve the President’s nominees to the DCE position.
Mr. Darfour advised them to be humble, transparent and accountable in the discharge of their duties.
A Deputy Local Government and Rural Development Minister, Nana Adjei Boateng, urged them to focus on addressing the felt needs of the communities.
They should find innovative ways to improve the revenue generation performance to implement more development projects, he added.
He said it was important to fully exploit the economic potentials of the assemblies – to add to their revenue streams and remove the over-reliance on the Common Fund.
Baffour Nyantekyi Tutu Boateng, Krontihene of the New Juaben Traditional Area, reminded them to live up to expectation, telling them, excuses would not be accepted.
They should be ready to go the extra mile to help make things better for the people.
He encouraged them to also do everything to sustain the fight to stop illegal mining to protect the environment.
Mr. Kingsley Ohementg Kissi, Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), called for strong cooperation and understanding between the MDCEs and Members of Parliament (MPs) in the region.
He said unhealthy political struggle – turf fight, would be unhelpful and must be avoided.
