Puma Energy, the global integrated midstream and downstream energy company, has supported Ghanaian First Lady, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo’s quest to save mothers and babies at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.
The company donated an amount of GH ?100,000 towards the First Lady’s “Save A Child, Save A Mother” campaign under the Rebecca Akufo-Addo Foundation.
The campaign, which is being jointly pursued by Multimedia Group and Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, sought to raise an initial amount of GH?10 million to be used to construct a brand new maternity care centre fully furnished with state of the art equipment.
This will in turn reduce the otherwise avoidable deaths of countless mothers and babies at childbirth.
General Manager of Puma Energy Ghana, Mr. Myles Bouvier-Baird observed the donation by his outfit was a reflection of the energy company’s concern for the wellbeing of society, particularly those in disadvantaged groups.
He said, “We are proud to contribute to such a noble cause. At Puma Energy, we are here to fuel journeys and in this case it is a journey towards healthy deliveries and a chance to live. We know that these funds are going to be put to the best use.”
Ghana’s First Lady was full of praise and gratitude to the energy company for their gesture.
“We are sincerely grateful to Puma Energy for its contribution towards helping the Rebecca Foundation to construct a brand new maternity facility and purchase new maternity equipment for the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. Through such donations, we can improve our healthcare delivery system and save lives,” said Mrs. Akufo-Addo.
Accra based radio station, Joy Fm recently aired a documentary, “Next to Die” in which it came out that quite a significant number of women in labour and babies lose their lives as a result of inadequate space and obsolete medical equipment at the Mother and Baby Unit at the KATH.
The documentary generated discussions in the country in which the public called for some action to be taken in the not too distant future to save the situation.
Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo Foundation and Multimedia took it upon themselves by organizing a fundraising activity to raise the needed funding towards providing an ultra-modern maternity block to save lives.
Puma Energy is an oil marketing company in the business of providing high quality fuel at competitive prices. Having recently launched a road safety educational campaign for primary school children along high-risk roads in Accra, Puma Energy is passionate about fuelling causes in health and safety.
