The Wassa East District Assembly on Wednesday confirmed Mr Wilson Arthur the President’s nominee as the District Chief Executive (DCE) at Daboase, having secured 76 per cent votes in an election supervised by the Electoral Commission.
This was the second time the nominee sought the mandate of the District Assembly as he failed to garner the two-thirds majority of the members needed to have confirmed his nomination in the first election.
The election saw 23 out of the 30 members voting yes to elect Mr Arthur as the new DCE while only seven voted No.
There was however heavy security presence at the event, where all the people present were screened before they were allowed into the Assembly Hall.
The Regional Minister, Dr Kwaku Afriyie, who swore the DCE into office, apologized to the Member of Parliament of the area Mr Isaac Adjei Mensah for what happened last week where some people threw stones and other objects at his vehicle and accused him of having influenced the Assembly members to vote against the nominee.
The Regional Minister called for peace and unity to enhance the development of the district.
He called on the DCE elect to be humble and respect everyone who came his way especially Chiefs and assembly members.
Mr Adjei Mensah thanked the Assembly members for voting for the President’s nominee and asked that they give him the needed support to enable him effectively manage the District.
He said as the Member of Parliament of the area he was prepared to work with the DCE and that they should not allow political difference to divide them but that they should forge ahead with the development of the district.
He however urged the supporters of Mr Arthur to jubilate in moderation so as not to bring any disturbances to the area.
Mr Arthur in his acceptance speech thanked the Assembly members for the confidence repose in him and pledged to work hard to enhance the development of the District.
He also thanked the President for nominating him and stressed that he would ensure that all the Party’s campaign promises for the District were fulfilled.
Mr Arthur who is the CEO of SKY Media Group promised to operate an open door administration and would be mindful of the role of Chiefs in the development of the district.
The jubilate supporters of Mr Arthur clad in white amidst brass band music paraded the streets to express their joy.
