The Reverend Christian Amankwaa Kwafo, Aburi District Minister of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, has bemoaned the immoral practices among the youth such as indiscipline, teenage pregnancies and drug abuse in the country.
He noted that in spite of proliferation of churches in the country, such acts continued to be on the ascendancy.
Rev. Kwafo was speaking at the opening of the church’s Home-coming, which formed part of activities marking the 170th Anniversary celebration of the Emmanuel Congregation of the church, at Aburi in the Eastern Region.
He attributed the increased number of acts that had bedevilled the youth as broken homes, single parenting and the expansion of video centres, and urged the churches to intensify their evangelism.
The District Minister said the church which started with a handful of members could now boast of 2,000 worshippers.
He said the church had also opened more schools and hospitals and had trained many people with some of them occupying key positions including Mrs Gloria Akuffo, Mrs Naadu Mills and Mr Kwasi Pratt.
Rev Kwafo said the church had also been supporting the brilliant but needy students with scholarships and offered assistance to widows.
On the galamsey menace, Rev. Kwafo who is also the Minister in Charge of the Emmanuel Congregation, urged the President to ensure that polluted water bodies and degraded lands were restored within his tenure as one of his legacies.
About 2,000 members of the community were given free medical screening.
