The case involving the ‘Separatist’ called Homeland study group foundation which is seeking a rename of Volta region to Western Togoland state has been adjourned to Tuesday April 11, 2017.
The State prosecutor pleaded for more time to enable the police conclude investigations into the case.
The prosecutor earlier prayed the court to ban the wearing of the Western Togoland T-Shirts by the group.
However, some of the group members flouted police warning and wore the t-shirts to court today.
Background:
Three men in the Volta region were arrested and police proffered treason charges against them for championing secessionism with the possibility of facing death penalty if they are convicted.
The men include: 78-year old Charles Kormi Kudjordji, Martin Asiama Agbenu 57 and Divine Odonkor 65.
The group has been advocating for the restoration of the Western Togoland which they claim stretches from parts of the Northern region, Upper East, Volta region down to the Gulf of Guinea.
But they have argued that they are only trying to rewrite history and not to seek secessionism as speculated by a section of the public.
The Volta regional minister Dr Archibald Letsa has accused the group of having political backings.
