Stakeholders in the tech space are urging the government to develop a policy framework to help give the needed boost to the nations technology drive.
The call comes on the back of several government initiatives geared at digitizing the economy.
Speaking at the first edition of the Ghana Mobile App Development and Commercialization Stakeholder meeting, the Chief Information Officer for Vodafone Ghana, Benard Acquah said the policy is needed to streamline activities of various players in the tech space.
He said, “Policy is very important to give a guideline to the industry and show government support for locally developed technology.
Mr Acquah added that the policy must contain some financial incentives, tax breaks among others to support tech startups.
The Ghana Mobile App Development Commercialization Stakeholder meeting sought to create a platform for industry stakeholders to discuss the state of the Mobile App development industry.
The meeting solicited industry experts and stakeholder’s insight and opinions on the national interest for the Mobile App development industry.
Issues discussed included Mobile App Entrepreneurship, skills development, market need, sector policies as well as the future for the mobile App Market.
Touching on the matter of skills development, Innovative Associate for Ghana Tech Lab, Abeyie Bonsu urged that attention is paid to capacity building to address the skill gap issue in the mobile app development industry.

The initiative forms part of the E-transform project of World Bank and Ministry of communications and other partners Kumasi hive and the Accra digital Centre.
