Cape Coast-based St Augustine’s College has been literally spoon-fed with a pass to the nationals of TV’s biggest science and maths competition.
The one-time winners fell from grace after a preliminary elimination in 2017 and by their failure to qualify for the 2018 edition of the competition.
Per the rules of the game, past glory does not guarantee qualifications so the sea-siders have to face fellow ‘masses’ to scramble for a space in the 2019 competition.
However, the strength of their opponents might just make it a formality for St Augustine’s.
They face Academy of Christ the King who was kicked out at the 1/8 stage in 2018 by Ho-based Mawuli High after a very poor performance.
With other underdogs such as Komenda SHTS, T.I. AMASS, Potsin and Twifo SHS, Augusco should have no one but themselves to blame if they fail to make an appearance at the University of Ghana in June.
Meanwhile, up north, Upper West Region giants, St Francis Xavier also suffered a 1/8 stage elimination in 2018 and will have to battle at the regional level for a spot in the nationals.
They face St Francis Girls SHS, Wa SHS, Eremon SHS and Wa Technical Institute.
The balloting for Western Region has also been completed, producing some interesting pairings.
