Music producer, David Kwamena Bolton, says his life was in danger after returning to Ghana at the request of former President Jerry John Rawlings in 1990.
According to him, he was invited by the former President to provide IT assistance to the government.
The computer whiz kid was however accused of rigging the 1992 elections in Ghana in favour of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In an interview on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM with Andy Dosty, the music producer revealed that his life was greatly threatened after NDC won the elections.
“There was the whole brouhaha over NPP boycotting and all of these. Then NDC won the elections. Because I was seen as an IT guru at the time, I was actually accused of rigging the 1992 elections. It was published,” he said.
“I then had death threats and phone calls. People were following me back then in1993. I actually had a car chase in the middle of the night. They tried to knock me off the road. That point I had to get personal security,” he recounted.
David Kwamena Bolton in spite of the allegations noted that he was not actively involved in the politics of the country though he was a friend of former President Rawlings.
“I became very close to him. I didn’t have a political bone in my body. I was here to help the nation,” he said.
The C.E.O of DKB studios made this revelation while commenting on the victimization of celebrities who endorse political parties in Ghana by their political opponents.
David Kwamena Bolton started out as a computer whiz kid in the late 80’s and founded a company when he was 14 years old.
He developed a software for the British health service two years later and that earned him an official letter of recognition from the then British Prime Minister.
Upon his arrival in Ghana after a formal invitation from the Government of Ghana, he founded a software development house, where he specialized in public sector computerization.
His expertise in software development and technological innovation are being put to good use as the Technical Director at SOFTtribe.
