The Institute of Statistical Social and Economic Research (ISSER) has donated books on various sectors of the Ghanaian economy to the Takoradi Technical University for studies and research purposes.
The books, authored by the research fellows of the Institute, is to help lecturers and students on the development of the various sectors in Ghanaian economy in order to make informed policy decisions on matters of businesses, banking among others.
Receiving the books, the Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Victor K. B. Micah, indicated the donation of the books has come at an opportune time to help guide lecturers and students to understand how the various sectors of the Ghanaian economy has grown to middle income status.
“We need to build knowledge on the Ghanaian economy from local perspectives in order to profess relevant solutions to challenges of our economy with practically developed principles” he stated.
According to him, the recent happenings in the local economy particularly in the banking or financial sector require an in-depth study of where we started and the current state.
ISSER is an International Development Research Centre with extensive work in teaching, advocacy and capacity building to various organizations and Institutions for the donation and urged lecturers and students to make good use of the materials to benefit themselves and society.
The director of ISSER, Prof. Felix Asante, stated books were a product of thorough studies of the Ghanaian economy to educate students on the trends and the performance of the economy under the various governments in the fourth republic.
He explained that supporting the stock of the Takoradi Technical University library with locally developed evidence-based knowledge will go a long way to align the university’s core mandate in equipping learners with practical skills and knowledge on the Ghanaian economy for national development.
“It is anticipated that this cutting-edge Ghanaian based research will help provide the University with the basic and practical knowledge about the development trajectory of the various sectors of the Ghanaian economy for which the products of the University work”, he added.
Prof. Asante further reiterated that the books will help the University to know the contributions of their products to the socio-economic development of the nation as a whole.
Present at the donation were Ms. Emefa Amponsah, a lecturer at TTU, and the administrative secretary Ms Eccles Andoh from ISSER.
