The common emotional denominator in the reaction to news of five kidnapped girls in Takoradi in the Western region, is shock.
Shock not only at the occurence of a crime many say is an unusual troublemaking trade among criminals in Ghana but at the police response.
Five months into the kinappings, the police say they have made very little progress in locating Priscilla Koranchie, 15 years; Priscilla Blessing Bentum, 21; and Ruth Love Quayson, 18.
Priscilla Blessing Bentum went missing on August 17, 2018 at Kansaworodo in the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality.
Ruth Love Quayson went missing on December 4, 2018 at Butumagyebu Junction, popularly called BU-Junction in the twin-city of Sekondi/Takoradi while Priscilla Koranchie went missing on December 21, 2018 at Nkroful.
The police have a suspect in whose house clothing belonging to one of the girls was found. But they say there is little they can do because the suspect is not speaking.
The jaw-dropping admission of helplessness by the police has fired up sections of social media with the #BringBackOurTaadiGirls, a creation of Joy News trending.
#JoySMS The police are sayn they can't torture the kidnapper, throw him in prison send millitary guys there 2 prise the information from him.our police lack common wisdom, they beat inocent citizens 2 death why not this one,
Send a brute message 2 kidnappers#BringBackOurTaadiGirls

#BringBackOurTaadiGirls #freePriscilla @Joy997FM@Serwaa_Amihere Priscilla Bentum, was one of our cheerful, jovial & loyal customers. She really loves the brand & even supported the brand in her own way.We miss delivering her orders. We kindly ask our police to help find them alive pic.twitter.com/73g5gDycsx
I live in Takoradi, been here since November last year and my Sis had to come from campus in december to tell me of her friend Prisscy missing since JUNE!
Very Pathetic and Lazy on the authorities about this issue
Treated with disrespect in highest esteem#BringBackOurTaadiGirls
The police lazy and lack of aggression to bring back the kidnapped girls is very irritating, why is the western Regional police commander still in office after the matter was reported 5months ago. Clearly Ghana doesn’t pay attention to girls .#BringBackOurTaadiGirls
I stand with my sisters who have been kidnapped, the families and my people in #Taadi. I'm confident our girls will be found. I urge the police to do more and speed up their operation to rescue our girls. Stand strong Taadi. We will win this battle.#BringBackOurTaadiGirls ???????? pic.twitter.com/BQ9JDai9yV
Ghana Police Service should act swiftly to rescue the innocent girls from these Nigerian kidnappers. This delayed to bring the issue to rest is not acceptable, we can't as a country allowed these foreigners to trade in kidnapping in this Country.#BringBackOurTaadiGirls pic.twitter.com/gWLFuCJb2s
Next line of action.
We will not stop until the girls return home. We will light up in solidarity with our girls in distress and scare away the darkness that has engulfed the Oil City. We will ensure that the police #Bringbackourtaadigirls pic.twitter.com/6NKyfONAfb
