The second phase of Girl Child Education and Women Empowerment Programme (GLOWDEP) in some schools in the Central Tongu District of the Volta Region has taken off.
This phase of the project seeks to monitor and strengthen the existing Girls Clubs established by GLOWDEP through the support of the French Embassy in Ghana.
For the past two years, the French Embassy in Ghana has been supporting Global Women Development Promoters to implement the such a project to build the confidence of Girls Club to pursue their career choices.
As a strategy towards the sustainability of the Girls’ Clubs, GLOWDEP organized a Trainer of Trainees (TOT) workshop for School Based Facilitators of Girls’ Clubs from 37 Basic and Senior High Schools from the Adidome, Bakpa Avedo, Anfoe, Devime, Kpedzeglo, Mafi Kumasi and Zongo Circuits.
The workshop was organized in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES), Central Tongu District at the Central Tongu District Assembly Hall in Adidome.
In attendance was the District Chief Executive of the district, queen mother of the traditional area, officials from the Ghana Education Service (GES), headmasters from the various schools, Circuit Supervisors, Girls’ Club Facilitators among others.
There were various Presentations, Group Work and Plenary Discussions Launching of Girls’ Club Manual among others.
The speakers at the training workshop were from GLOWDEP, GES, Central Tongu District, Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG) and the Ghana Health Service Directorate.
Topics discussed included Gender Parity in the District and strategies to improve it - global and national picture of gender parity, adolescent sexual and reproductive health, menstrual hygiene and management practices and principles of counselling.
The GLOWDEP team during the workshop launched the new Girls’ Club training manual which was distributed to the Girls’ Club facilitators accordingly to facilitate the growth of the Clubs in their various schools.
A follow-up was a confidence-building workshop organized for Girls’ Club members in some basic and Senior High Schools in the District where some logistics were presented by the GLOWDEP team and GES.
