When the new Premier League season started, the boat of expectation cast off. However, expectations do not always end well and sometimes we even encounter a bad debt with our investments. Unfortunately, the following players did not live up to the billing in Game Week 1: Sergio Aguero, Harry Kane, Joshua King, Christian Eriksen and Aubameyang.
Sergio Aguero
Kun Aguero went into GW1 with a lot of optimism after he scored a brace against Arsenal in the FA Community Shield. However, it was a day to forget for the diminutive striker as he couldn’t score or assist a goal. He missed a clear-cut chance against Petr Cech, a day to forget.
Joshua King
Bournemouth were at home against a newly promoted side who are tipped to go back down to the championship at the end of the season. Joshua King scored 4 goals in pre-season and he was the man in form. With Bournemouth expected to win, King was tipped to get a few goals. Wilson stole the show as he scored and assisted.
Christian Eriksen
In Eriksen’s Premier League career, he has created 60 big chances and attempted 1,040 crosses. If Tottenham were to score a goal at Tyneside, you will expect the Danish international to be involved. Unfortunately, it looks like Eriksen is still on vacation as he had a very quiet game.
Harry Kane
Harry Kane scored in 19 game weeks out of 37 game weeks last season – the most by any player. However, Kane’s goal-scoring ability tends to dim in the month of August and this season is no different. Kane failed to register a shot on target against Newcastle, a sign of an unfit player?
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
To be fair to the Gabonese forward, he faced arguably the best team in the Premier League. His team did not enjoy much of the ball, hence Aubameyang’s lack of involvement in the match. With the prize that he comes with, he needs to do more each Game Week.
