The National Oral French quiz has been launched at the British Council for all Junior and Senior High Schools students, both private and public schools in the country.
The Quiz is endorsed by the Director General of the Ghana Education Service, Prof. Opoku Amankwah under the Ministry of Education and the CREF Ghana in collaboration with Rosemary Amankwah, CEO of Rosa’s Language Centre.
According to the initiator and visionary of the National French Oral Quiz, Mrs Amankwah, "the quiz, “Osez Parler Et Maitrisez L’oral” which literally means “Dare to speak and master the oral” has been well strategized to help students put all that they learn in the classroom into practice.
She said it is meant to help them express themselves orally using the French language as a medium of communication.
She said, “We believe that in the near future, through the education of our students in the French as a foreign language, Ghana, would be rated and noted as one of the best bilingual countries for foreigners to invest and contribute their quota in the development of our dear nation.
“We, therefore, solicit all private and public entrepreneurs, companies and firms to support, donate and invest in this first-ever national french oral quiz so that our future leaders would find the joy in learning the foreign language and its promotion. May all citizens of our dear nation accept and support this worthy educational program”.
Ghana as an Anglophone country has been surrounded by three vibrant francophone countries viz; Burkina Faso, La Cote D’Ivoire and Togo leaving Ghana with no option than to bridge any form of language and cultural gaps.

It is based on this geographical status that governments in the past and currently, the sitting President Nana Akufo-Addo is making all efforts to reinforce the teaching and learning of French into all the basic, JHS and SHS as part of the ongoing free education.
French teachers were encouraged to be abreast with the technological world by making good use of audio-visual materials which helps bring most of the abstract things taught in the classroom setup to the level of learners whenever possible.
The Deputy Education Minister, Dr Yaw Adutwum said, “the French language has come to stay with all Ghanaians so teachers must encourage students to put what they learn into practice by speaking.
"The business world must also embrace this oral program as they stand a chance of having bilingual trainees in their workplace to seal contracts with foreign partners whenever deemed.”
The head of French Education at the University of Education, Winneba added that through the oral quiz, the country has high hopes of rubbing shoulders with our neighbouring francophone countries in the educational field, job market and another socio-economic status.
In attendance was Relations Manager for MTN Sarah Ntim; Robert Atsu Davor, CREF National Coordinator; Atinuke Luther-King, Fine Print Gh. Ltd; Nana David Anim, President of the Ghana Tourism Federation and Representatives from Manhyia Palace.
