Congestion at School of Dispensing Optics at Oyoko in the Ashanti Region is creating uneasiness among authorities and for parents.
The facility originally was built to accommodate one hundred students now houses 225.
Acting Principal, Gabriel Opoku says funding, transportation and training equipment are other challenges confronting the school.
The School of Dispensing Optics located in Sekyere-Kumawu District is the only such institution in West Africa.
Classrooms and hostel infrastructure remain inadequate, 10 years after government absorbed it, despite the availability of land.
Mr. Opoku says the situation makes academic and moral training cumbersome.
Meanwhile, the school is now affiliated to the University of Cape Coast to offer Diploma and sandwich programmes, requires urgent state attention.
Authorities intend to use the school’s meagre internally- generated funds to initiate expansion projects, pending government approval.
Meanwhile, management is appealing to benevolent bodies to support them.
