Youth and Sports Minister, Isaac Asiamah has cut the sod for the construction of a 10,000-seater multipurpose Youth and Sports Centre at Nuwunu, Ho in the Volta Region.
Minister Asiamah said the $2 million project forms part of government's efforts to provide Ghanaian youth with opportunities to develop their talents.
The project, which is being executed by Wilkado Construction Works, will comprise a FIFA-standard football pitch, an eight-lane athletic track, a tennis court, a basketball court, a handball court, a gymnasium, a counselling centre, a youth ICT centre, an entrepreneurship centre and a restaurant.
The construction begins immediately with the facility expected to be ready in nine months.
“When you look at the Volta Region, it has contributed immensely to the sports development of this country and yet the region can’t even boast of a proper sports facility.
“This is not fair and that’s why we are starting here. When this is completed, the people of Volta will be very proud of what we have done,” The Minister said in his address.
He added it was important for the government to continue to make such investments to secure the future of Ghana.
He also expressed gratitude to the Chiefs of Ho for donating over 100 acres of land for the project.
