'Turaaku' livestock market at Ashaiman near Tema has for decades been the one stop shop for meat production, for many of Accra’s inhabitants.
It has been serving the protein needs of Ghanaians, especially during festivities, obviously at a cost.
Interestingly, beyond nourishing themselves, many customers do not know how Turaaku came to be known for the trade in livestock
As part of Joy News' Agenda series on names of places, Komla Adom has been finding out the story behind the name 'Turaaku.
Turaaku is a Hausa word which means 'tethering multiple stamps' laid the foundation for the trade in goats, sheep and cattle to begin in Accra.
