Wife of the Vice President Samira Bawumia says her husband is doing “very well” and will soon return to work.
In a Facebook post published Thursday, the soft-spoken, affable woman thanked Ghanaians and well-wishers for their prayers and support for the Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia who is currently on medical leave in the UK.
Dr Bawumia was advised to take a short leave after he fell ill few days. It is not clear yet, what he may be suffering from.
“The Vice President of the Republic, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in the early hours of Friday, January 19, 2018, reported feeling unwell.
“He was attended to by his doctors and is currently undergoing medical tests and observation. Any further information will be duly communicated,” a statement released by the Director of Communications for the president Eugene Arhin said.
A subsequent statement announced his departure to the UK on “medical leave.”

It is also not clear when he will return to duty.
The development has triggered a huge controversy amongst the two main political parties.
While members of the opposition National Democratic Congress are demanding the full disclosure of the health details of Dr Bawumia, the government spokespersons have been adamant.
Information Minister Mustapha Hamid has said it is unethical to divulge the details of the health status of the second most powerful person in the country.
In the midst of the controversy, Samira Bawumia has assured Ghanaians her husband is on a smooth road to recovery and will return to work very soon.
“My husband and I are grateful to all Ghanaians and well-wishers from across the world for your prayers, support, and best wishes.
“He is doing very well and we thank Allah for His grace. He looks forward to returning to work soon,” she said in the Facebook post.
