UK-based Ghanaian gospel musician, Sonnie Badu is simply not amused about the ‘One Corner’ dance craze that has currently grabbled national attention.
The dance craze and song, which is arguably the biggest song in the country, has seen people go crazy either perching on objects, go under cars while others isolate themselves on the ground.
Several celebrities have recorded themselves enjoying the dance craze to the song released by Swedru-based artiste, Patapaa,
Sonnie Badu, sharing his view on the dance craze, has called for its urgent curtailing to avert any loss of life.
“It’s getting dangerous. I saw someone climb an electric pole, I saw someone climb a tipper truck, I saw someone run under a car, and I saw someone dancing while cars were moving. Now, this is getting out of hands. Do you want to wait until you hear somebody dead before you say ‘one corner’ killed him?”
The ‘Baba’ hit singer said he is “getting concerned about the rate at which people are taking this to the extreme. I’ve seen people jump over people just to demonstrate what the ‘one corner’ means. I believe there would have been restrictions if it happened in other countries.”
Sonnie Badu, although has serious concerns about the risk involved in the craze, noted that, “In fact, it’s a good trend. Once in a while, good trends are interesting. We had ‘the ladder’, ‘two thowzing’, ‘kpakpakpa’… This could be an interesting trend that started in Swedru; nobody is taking away the young man’s hard work. It is his time to shine but we have to make sure that if we know it’s his time to shine, then let people who know they can help this guy, help him.”
Also reacting to dance craze is a renowned broadcaster and showbiz personality, Kwasi Kyei Darkwah, popularly known as KKD.
He has expressed his displeasure at how Ghanaians, including some respected entertainment personalities, have easily jumped onto the dance craze.
Speaking on Neat FM, KKD said the song should not be endorsed and stressed that the dance craze is ‘foolishness’.
“It is bad when the name of Ghana is dragged into something like this. A lot of educative things have come up in Ghana; a lot of brilliant personalities have visited us here. So let us also project those positive things too about our country,” the fashionista said.
“For me, I think it is foolishness, certain things happen and nobody is able to speak frankly about it,” he concluded.
