Justice For All Programme beneficiary goes back to jail the third time in 5yrs

Wa Circuit Court presided over by Justice Forson Baah Agyapong has sentenced 33-year old driver, Adam Ibrahim to 25 year imprisonment with hard labor.

He was charged with attempted robbery and causing unlawful harm after attacking and inflicting deep cutlass wounds on a student of university for development studies, Harry Amankwa early last month.

The sentence handed over the accused is his third in five years. He was also a beneficiary of the Justice for all programme on May 1, 2017.

Prosecuting, Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Yeboah told the court that the victim who is a student of the Wa campus of the University for development studies were studying at their hostel room before the attack.

The accused, 33-year old driver Adam Ibrahim, wearing a face mask and armed with a sharp cutlass forcibly broke in to the room with his accomplice who is at large.

Ibrahim Adam attacked the victim, Harry Amankwa and inflicted on him, deep cutlass wounds on his right shoulder,  head, right wrist whilst his accomplice positioned himself at the entrance of the room.

He had a gun to fend off any person who may come to help the victim.

Chief Inspector Yeboah stated the Harry Amankwa was left in pool of blood and started struggling.

The accused then pounce on the complainant who had sought refuge under his cloth in his bed and attempted to butcher him. But he mustered courage and managed to entangle his attacker with his cover cloth.

In the process, the complainant succeeded in disarming the accused of the cutlass and inflicted a deep cut on the elbow of the accused.

The accused together with accomplice then sensed danger and bolted. The victim with his right arm almost severed off was rushed to the Wa regional hospital and a report later made to the Wa police.

The prosecution added that later in the same night the accused visited the Wa regional hospital to seek treatment for his cut on the elbow.

He was arrested by the police after and the victim identified him . The accused was quickly taken to his house at Waali Sombo where a face mask stained with blood was retrieved on his compound.

Also retrieved were sneakers, Gucci branded pullover, black jean all stained with blood.

The prosecution charged the accused for attempted robbery and causing unlawful harm.

He pleaded not guilty to the two charges and went for full trial. During the trial, the prosecution called two witnesses and the accused also brought one defence witness.

The Wa Circuit Court judge, Justice Forson Baah Agyapong found the accused guilty of both charges and sentenced him to 25 years imprisonment in hard labor.

This is the third time the accused is being handed a prison sentence in his 33-year old life.

He was first sentenced 18 months in 2012 by the Wa District Court for stealing. He had his second date with the prison on the 11 of September 2014 when he was sentenced to 4 years imprisonment in hard labor.

He was later released by the Justice For All Programme on May 1, 2017.
