Ave Maria School Complex, a leading basic educational institution in Accra, has launched its 35th anniversary celebrations with a colorful ceremony with special focus on quality education.
The occasion which took place on the school's premises at Dansoman in Accra, was also used to unveil the new school logo and anniversary souvenirs. It was under the theme: "Celebrating our past, charting our future."
Slated for July 29,2017 the program is fully packed with activities such as donation to selected institutions, family fun fair, float, Speech and Prize-giving day and climax it with a thanksgiving service.
Known as Citadel of Excellence, the school's overall performance has been impressive, especially with results of the annual Basic Education Certificate Examination, as it is now rated among the top basic schools in Greater Accra.
Enumerating the successes chalked by the school, the Headmistress, Mrs Florence Agordjor said the school which was founded in 1982 by the late Mrs Mary Ama Kyem Antwi started with three children and two teachers, currently has a popluation of 976 pupils with boarding facility attached to it.
Mrs Agordjor said the late founder through her passion in child development, chose the children whose parents had no house help to start with them.
She said the school as part of its corporate social responsibility has been donating cash and hospital equipment to institutions during school's annual celebrations. She mentioned Dansoman Polyclinic as one of the regular beneficiaries.
Speaking during the launch as a guest Speaker, Lecturer at University of Education Wineba, Dr Samuel K. Hayford charged the school management to constantly focus on innovations that will enable them to offer quality education to improve the standard of the school.
He said for the school to achieve this objective, measures such as teacher certification, professional standards, access to teaching and learning materials as well as infrastructure, learning and sound learning environment must be provided.
He charged the teachers to challenge complacency in relation to quality education delivery, adding, no school sustains or improves quality education delivery until every teacher understands that they have a level of responsibility and accountability that will reflect learners' experience and learning outcomes.
He advised the school authorities to provide conducive teaching environment which according to him, will motivate the teachers to do their best to enhance quality delivery of education.
