Veteran actor Akwesi Boadi, popularly known as Akrobeto, has rubbished claims that Kumawood movies are mostly filled with insults.
He noted with resentment that, Kumawood movies are a true reflection of the Ghanaian society.
For some time now, movies produced in local language, particularly Twi, have received a lot of flak for the insulting language used.
Some critics and industry professionals have called for a system to reverse the trend before it gets out of hand. Akrobeto disagrees.
Speaking on Personality Profile on Drive Time on Joy FM with Lexis Bill, the actor noted that Kumawood movies only portray happenings in Ghanaian society.
He explained that a “movie is all about acting” and the things that happen around us are the same things that go into movies.
He said generally Ghanaians don't wish God's blessings on people they quarrel with, rather they rain insults on their enemies.
He observed that even a child, who does not watch movies, learns to utter insults first when he or she learns to talk.
The actor stressed that they don’t just insult “but we are teaching you something.”
Akrobeto accused the English Language actors of trying to tar the local language actors and “pull us down.”
Asked if the English movie space respects them, he said there is a general societal problem where people who don’t have any formal education are looked down upon.
He said it will be a big mistake to look down upon people who don’t have a formal education because some of these people are very smart and own big business in the country.
The ‘Owuo Nti’ actor was quick to dismiss rumours that some Kumawood producers ask for sex or sleep with females before giving them roles in movies.
He noted that sex for jobs is a general societal problem that needs to be checked.
