The Overlord of the Sangule traditional area in the Northern Region, Obore Kumayi Gabuja John has expressed disappointment at the way the police handled the recent robbery attacks in the Tatale Township.
He said the police were very slow in responding to distress calls from the people even though they had information of the robbery attack.
Addressing the press in Tatale the Overlord accused the police of rather showing interest in items retrieved from the robbers who were killed, than working hard to find a lasting solution to the continuous attacks on the people of the area.
Armed robbers besieged the Tatale township on the May 21, robbing traders of their monies and several valuable items. There was continuous gun battle between the robbers and community members for two days resulting in the death of 10 people.
The Overlord said the police were spectators instead of serving their constitutional role as protectors of the people.
Obore Kumayi Gabuja said the excuse by the police that they lacked logistics is untenable questioning why they did not call for reinforcement from the military.
The Overlord appealed to government to increase security patrol in the area and also mount more barriers on the Tatale-Nahuyili and Tatale-Tatindo roads, to limit the robbery incidence in the area.
He also called on government to equip the existing police in the Tatale-Sangule and Zabzugu Districts with necessary logistics to be able to work effectively to protect lives and properties. He also ppealed for support for families of the deceased.
