A 29-year-old electrician, Samuel Ledi, has been sentenced to three years imprisonment by the Hohoe Circuit Court for stealing a woman’s handbag containing GH¢40,000.
A suspect, called Tsikata, is currently at large.
On July 17, 2024, Ledi, who appeared before the court, presided over by Mr. Michael Johnson Abbey, pleaded not guilty.
However, he was found guilty, convicted and sentenced to three years imprisonment.
Chief Inspector Charles Aziati, prosecuting, informed the court that Ledi was a “known” offender, having previously committed a similar offense in 202, by stealing a bag containing money and a phone, and he (Ledi) was sentenced to two years imprisonment.
Prosecution, therefore, urged the court to impose a severe punishment.
Chief Insp Aziati said the complainant, in the latest case, is a fish trader at the Hohoe market, on May 22, 2023, who reported to the police that a red bag, valued at GH¢200, and containing GH¢40,000, she place under a table at the market got missing.
The prosecution said two suspects were arrested in connection with the missing bag.
Moreover, Chief Insp Aziati said during investigation, Ledi informed the police that Tsikata and another friend were responsible for the theft, and offered to assist in locating them in Ashaiman.
