A painter has been remanded into police custody by the Circuit Court at Adentan, for allegedly impregnating his 14-year-old step daughter, at Kwabenya, Accra.
David Osei, 43, charged with defilement, pleaded not guilty and was expected to reappear before court on June 6.
Chief Superintendent of Police Patience Mario said the court that Osei allegedly had sex with the girl when the mother of victim was taking care of accused’s first daughter, who had delivered and was on admission at a hospital.
Prosecution said even when the complainant had returned from the hospital, accused supposedly continued to have sex with the girl when the complainant was asleep.
Chief Sup Mario told the court presided over by Mrs Sedinam Awo Balokah that the complainant, a 34- year-old seamstress, had been living with accused at Kwabenya together with five other children, including the victim.
The prosecution said in October 2021, the first daughter of accused delivered at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and was on admission.
Chief Sup Marion said the complainant was taking care of accused’s first daughter at the hospital while accused was at home taking care of the other children.
The court heard that at night Osei slept beside the victim on the floor and abused her sexually when other children were asleep.
Chief Sup Marion said even when complainant had returned home from the hospital, accused sneaked out of his room and had sex with the victim on the floor when complainant was asleep.
Prosecution said the complainant detected physical changes on the girl and took her to the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission Hospital, where it was detected that the victim was 27 weeks pregnant.
Chief Insp Mario said the case was reported to the police at Madina and accused person was arrested. —GNA
