Robber jailed 25 years

 The Accra Circuit Court Seven, has sentenced an armed robber, Emmanuel Kekeli Badasu, to 25 years imprisonment in hard labour.

Badasu, who pleaded guilty, had been jailed 10 years by the Accra Circuit Court, 10 and 17 years by the Koforidua Court for similar crime, in December 2022, and January 2023, respectively.

Meanwhile, Bortey, his accom­plice, in the latest crime, was jailed 15 years.

Prosecuting, Police Chief In­spector Emmanuel Ohene Agyei told the court presided over by Mrs Ellen Offei Ayeh that Kekeli and Bortey, on August 13, 2021, at Nungua Samgona, robbed a mar­ried couple of an iPhone 12 Pro­max, valued GH¢8,000, Samsung Galaxy S8 mobile phone, valued at GH¢1,600 and their wedding rings, valued at GH¢4,000.

He said the complainants, Mr Michael Antwi Boasiako and Christopher Otu, were a contrac­tor and a carpenter respectively, residing at Nungua Sangona.

Chief Inspector Agyei said Badasu, a farmer, resided in Ko­foridua, but visited his accomplice, Bortey, at Nungua, in Accra.

The court heard that in Feb­ruary, 2021, Badasu and Bortey armed with a cutlass broke into the room of the first complainant, Boasiako, and his family, and demanded his car key, phones and cash.

Chief Insp Agyei said the con­victs used the cutlass to threaten the first complainant and the wife that if they failed to comply with the demand, they (convicts) would inflict cutlass wounds on their one-month-old baby.

The court heard that the married couple surrendered an iphone 12 pro max, a Samsung S8 mobile phone and their wedding rings to the convicts.

Chief Insp Agyei said the con­victs after the robbery locked the victims in their washroom and left.

Prosecution said Badasu and Bortey went to another apartment within the same compound and attempted to break the door of Christopher Otu, the second complainant.

Chief Insp Agyei said luck elud­ed the convicts, as the occupants raised the alarm, which attract­ed neighbours, who came to the scene, but Bortey managed to flee the scene.

The court heard that the neigh­bours arrested Badasu and handed him to the police together with the cutlass used for the robbery.

Chief Insp Agyei said when the first complainant heard of Bada­su’s arrest, he went to the police station and identified him (Badasu) as the one who broke into the room of the family.

The court heard that the first complainant said Badasu and another man entered the room and robbed the family of their phones and wedding rings.

The prosecution said Badasu later led the police to arrest his ac­complice at his hide out. — GNA
