Metropolitan Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDCEs) have been urged to strengthen sub-structures for effective and efficient governance of the assemblies to improve livelihoods.
That will enable them to involve all structures of local governance to accelerate socio-economic development of their respective areas and attract investment.

Interacting with assembly members, Mr Awuah assured that the Assemblies were committed, dedicated and determined to resource the Area Councils especially with logistics to enable them to deliver on their mandate to improve local governance.
He observed that Area Councils and Unit Committees were established by section three sub-section three and four of the Local Government Act, 2016 (Act 936) and the Legislative Instrument(LI 1967) within the area of authority of assemblies, mandated members of area council and unit committees to champion local level growth and development within their jurisdiction under the direct supervision of the assemblies.
Mr Awuah reiterated that the assemblies could not function effectively and efficiently without functional and reliable sub-structures such as area councils and unit committees and stressed on the need for them to work towards meaningful implementation of the local governance and decentralisation policies under the direction and guidance of Assemblies.
“I challenge members of area councils and unit committees to spearhead the social, economic, and political needs of their areas by communicating clearly the agenda of the assemblies devoid of any partisan or ethnic consideration or personal sentiments.
“I also urge you to serve your communities in accordance with laid down procedures, regulations and rules to achieve the intended purpose to inure to the progress, growth and development of assemblies,” Mr Awuah stated. -GNA
